    OFF TO A GOOD START WITH PRESTARTERS and concentrates

    Once piglets have received colostrum and are well into the habit of suckling, there are many benefits to be gained from supplementing the sow’s milk with a tasty prestarter.

    The sow’s milk is essential for healthy piglets. High-quality feed also helps prepare piglets for weaning. What’s more, it ensures good growth in the farrowing unit, and for the first few weeks after weaning.

    Feed uptake is crucial for the piglets to get off to a good start in the early weaning unit. Studies have shown that piglets on average grow 50 grams more after weaning when they have ‘learned’ to eat in the farrowing unit.

    A good rule of thumb is to go for feed uptake of 0.80 kg/day on average from 6-30 kg.

    If the piglets fail to get a good start to feeding in the farrowing unit, it can often mean farmers being forced to use expensive prestarter feed for an extended period – which has an impact on the bottom line.

    A worthwhile investment is to go for every pig in the farrowing unit to eat 0.9 kg. This will ensure:

    A good prestarter pays off in the long run.

    Practical experiences show savings of 0.03 EUR/kg growth from 6 – 30 kg and more than 3 kg higher weight when leaving the early weaning unit.

    Feed intake the first 14 days is crucial to the subsequent welfare of the pig, and higher daily gain makes good financial sense.

    COMPOSITION AND CONTENT

    Fishmeal and blood plasma have good amino acid profiles for piglets. Studies have shown that animal protein improves feed intake and daily gain, with low feed consumption.

    Furthermore, blood plasma contains immunoglobulins that strengthen the pig’s own immune system. Lactose is a vital source of energy and protein for piglets. The level of lactose content must be suitable for piglet age.

    PRESTARTER
    ​POWER PIG YOGHURT:
    A unique milk replacer containing yoghurt supports the balance of the gut. Very well suited for the first period in the farrowing unit and baby unit, where the piglet is learning

    Up to six different highly digestible protein sources secures a smooth and gentle blend optimal for piglets. Furthermore the products also contain BioPro Antibac, which is a blend of organic acids and fatty acids that combined create a good microbial balance in the gastrointestinal system.

    CONCENTRATE
    THE DANSTART GENTLE SERIES:
    The Danstart Gentle concentrates are developed to enhance a high feed intake and to accommodate the special challenges that piglets undergo at weaning. Vilomix has a great focus on including gentle and easily digestible protein sources. Crude protein levels are reduced without compromising the amino acid profile.

    The concentrates also contain good fiber sources to support the balance of the gut and yeast culture to help the balance of the small intestine. All Danstart Gentle concentrates have a high content of lactose to ease the transition from sow milk to solid feed. Organic acids as BioPro Antibac and BioPro Smart are part of all products in the series to further support the gut.
