First Results on the Prevalence of Mycotoxins in Small Grains in the European Harvest of 2023

Published: 2023-11-21

We are in the process of analyzing the new harvest for the content of mycotoxins.

We have had a year full of challenges: Drought and very hot and dry in June – windy and wet in big parts of Europe in July and August. These conditions lead to stressed plants which are more sensitive to attack from fungi during the growth season.
This can be observed in the initial results of mycotoxins measured in the grains.

The results shows this right now (autumn 2023) :

Going through a whole year without exposing animals to feed contaminated with mycotoxins will be tough. One problem with mycotoxins is the synergistic effect when more than one mycotoxin is present. The individual mycotoxins interact with each other, as indicated by these figures:

Therefore we recommend to use a good toxin binder in the feed for all animals groups all year around.
